Victorian and ACT short stay levies
Victoria charges 7.5% and the ACT 5% on short stays booked through platforms. They are government charges, shown as a named line inside the total.
Two states add a levy to short stays booked through platforms. They are government charges, not OzGetaways fees, and they are never part of our fee comparisons.
Victoria
A short stay levy of 7.5% of the total booking amount, including cleaning fees and GST, applies to stays under 28 nights since 1 January 2025. OzGetaways collects it from the guest as part of the total and pays it to the State Revenue Office. A host's principal place of residence is exempt, which is why we ask that question on the address screen.
Australian Capital Territory
A levy of 5% applies to platform bookings under 28 nights from 1 July 2025, rising to 7.5% on 1 July 2027. OzGetaways collects it from the guest and pays the ACT Revenue Office. Hosted stays, where the host lives on site, are exempt.
How it is shown
The levy is its own named line inside the total, for example "Victorian short stay levy (7.5%)". Guests see the same total in search results, on the listing and at checkout. It is not deducted from what a host receives.
Other states
New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory have no state short stay levy as at September 2026.
