About this place
A light-filled timber beach house tucked below the Cape Byron lighthouse. Wategos is the calm, north-facing beach the locals keep quiet about, and the house sits on the walking track above it. Long deck, outdoor shower, a kitchen built for big breakfasts and three bedrooms that all catch the sea breeze. Dolphins most mornings, whales from June to November.

Wategos is the calm end of Byron and this house is right on it. Kids were in the water before we had unpacked. Only note: bring a torch for the track at night.

We watched whales from the deck with our morning coffee. There was bread, fruit and a handwritten list of where to swim waiting for us. The house is even better than the photos.
